Welcome to my site.
I grew up in the town of Tipton in the Black Country.
I left school at 15 with no qualifications but I always enjoyed reading and writing. For sure, I have always possessed a steely will and determination and true to my own creative nature I have gone on to achieve many things.
I have had a very rich and rewarding career in the tool hire industry and also as a Methodist Diaconal Minister. I am currently serving as a mental health chaplain for the NHS. As a mental health First Aid instructor and also with the City of York Council as their Armed Forces Covenant Officer.
I live in the beautiful city of York and enjoy spending time with my family, being in nature, reading and writing.
I am passionate about the power of stories. I will always be grateful that I heard of two particular stories that changed my life and provided purpose.
One is the good news of the Christian Story and how I have been able to make it my own and secondly when someone told me their personal story of living with mental ill health and how it would be good for my mental well-being to tell my story of battling with mental ill health from an early age.
These stories have shaped my life, career and my writing.
I published my first book, Healing Streams in the Desert, in 2018 on Amazon with the help of a friend. This book tells the story of my journey of faith and sustained recovery from mental illness.
My second book was to share my experience of strategic planning for a churches mission which was self published in 2019
My third was to write a book for charities and community groups on strategic planning which was self published in 2019 this was followed by a short guide to project management which was self published in 2019.
To help churches support people with mental illness. I wrote a home group course which was self published in 2021 and a shorter version is available on the SPCK home group web site - https://homegroups.org.uk/series/mental-health-bible-study/
In 2019 I wrote a booklet to help people maintain reasonable mental health called ‘Ten top tips for mental health'. The City of York Council adopted this book for their community health champions.
I have written various pieces of content for magazines, newsletters and blog posts over the years.
